A Highly Respected Person of the Yuan Dynasty——The Story of Qian Yu, A Descendant of the King of Wuyue State
Date : 2021-01-28 Browsing Times : 2286Qian Yu (1247-1320), courtesy name Kuanfu, was native of Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, a descendant of Qian Liu, the King of Wuyue State and one of the affluent families of Wuxi in the end of Song Dynasty and the beginning of Yuan Dynasty. Buried in the first year of Zhizhi period (1321),it was discovered in 1958 due to the joint construction of Xingfu Reservoir in Junzhang Mountain by Nanquan and Xuelang Commune in Wuxi City.
A large number of culturalrelics were unearthed in the tomb, including gold, silver, vjade, crystal, agate, amber, silk clothing, lacquer, banknotes, wood and bronze mirrors, etc., a total of 154 pieces, with epitaphs, with high historical scientific, and arts and crafts value.
There are only a handful of Yuan Dynasty tombs in the country with such rich cultural relics and a very clear age. The tomb of Qian Yu in Wuxi and the tomb of the mother of Zhang Shicheng Ms. Cao in Suzhou can be regarded as the two most renowned tombs of the Yuan Dynasty discovered in Jiangnan region.
