After the period of Liangzhu Culture, there came Maqiao Culture in Taihu Basin, when Central China entered the period of Xia Dynasty. Named after Maqiao Site of Shanghai, Maqiao Culture not only inherited part of factors of Liangzhu Culture, but also absorbed multiple cultural factors including Stamped Pottery Culture of Zhejiang, Hu-shu Culture of Ningzhen areas, Yueshi Culture of Shandong and Erlitou Culture in Central China. Typical Maqiao Culture site had been found at Wuxi Yangjia Site, the upper layer of Hongkoudun Site ,Xuxiang Site and Jiangyin Shecheng Site. A batch of bronze artifacts as knives, chisels and arrowheads unearthed in the period of Maqiao Culture indicated that this area had stepped from Stone Age to Early Bronze Age.
